Domestic Law bill news
There is increased action to both regulate and facilitate digital assets in light of their huge popularity growth. With the implementation of the Specific Financial Information Act, only government-approved Crypto Asset Service Providers can continue their operations, which exerts regulatory compliance on exchanges. In light of the clandestine WEMIX coin sale by game company WEMADE, the government is also planning to require all companies to publicly announce their coins sales. Starting from 2022, the government will officially add a question regarding the provision of digital assets in the Household Financial Welfare Survey which signifies government recognition/interest of the cryptocurrency market. With the presidential election in full swing, both major candidates have revealed favorable policies regarding digital asset taxation and P2E games to appeal to the growing demographic interested in cryptocurrency. -
Korean exchange news
In light of the announcement by the financial authorities that they would not prohibit the withdrawal from private wallets, the exchanges have asked for clarification regarding the implementation of the travel rule this coming March. Meanwhile, Coinone and Bithumb have gone forward with their whitelist registration for private wallets, which prevents owners from using various services such as DeFi, NFT, DAOs, and so forth. This implies that the Korean crypto market will become separated from the global market and put significant downward pressure on the flow of investment from Korea to various projects. -
Community news
Due to the overall bearish market, the DeFi sector did not receive much attention from the Korean crypto community. On the other hand, cheap gas fees and potential multifold returns attracted a lot of people to Klayton-based NFT projects. Projects such as Syltare and Hashed Snail received a lot of hype from the get-go from relevant influencers. However, rug pulls from NFT projects such as Castle and KSH and Kmeme coins such as Gookbapcoin and Ddeokbokkicoin made a lot of people lose faith in the Klayton ecosystem. Although Klayton is preferred by many Korean users due to the relatively secluded nature of its chain, it also lacks self-regulatory power.
